At the Economic Forum, the Director-General will participate in a plenary debate with the Presidents of Poland and Croatia during the opening session entitled “New Vision for Hard Times: Europe and the World Confronting the Crisis”.
In Warsaw, the Director-General will participate in the Seminar devoted to the creation of the West Polesie Biosphere Reserve, in the presence of Deputy Ministers of Environment from Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Poland has the highest number of transboundary Biosphere Reserves, with four tri-lateral sites. This reserve was added to World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) in July 2012.
During her visit to Poland, the Director-General is expected to meet with several members of the government, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Radoslaw Sikorski, Minister of the Environment Mr. Marcin Korolec, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Mr. Bogdan Zdrojewski and the Minister of Science and Higher education, Ms Barbara Kudricka. She will also meet with Members of the Polish National Commission to UNESCO.
The Historic Centre of Warsaw, a UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed in 1980, is an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century.
