The Director-General is expected to meet with H.E. Salah Jarrar, Minister of Culture of Jordan, H.E. Nayef Al Fayez, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Professor Kamel Abu Jaber, Director of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, Mr. Maysoon Al Zubi, Secretary General at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, as well as with the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Luc Stevens.
During her visit, the Director-General, accompanied by the Minister of Education Fayez Mohammad Al Saudi, will visit SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East), Middle East’s first international research centre. She will discuss possible joint initiatives between UNESCO and SESAME to widen partnership and increase support for SESAME.
The visit to SESAME will feature meetings with the President of the SESAME Council, Professor Sir Chris Llewellyn Smith, the Director of SESAME Dr. Khaled Toukan, who is also Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission as well as with the Administrative Director of SESAME, Professor Yasser Khalil.
The Director-General will also visit Um Er-Rasas, a World Heritage site inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004, and the iconic site of Petra, inscribed on the List in 1985.
