Every being in nature is an aggregate of degrees of substances, forces, and vibrations coexisting in unison and harmony. In music, harmony is the simultaneous sounding of notes to produce chords that have a pleasing effect. In nature, harmony is the consistent and orderly combination of different parts to produce one cooperating whole.
According to the Esoteric Philosophy, harmony is the inherent law of laws throughout the universe that restores balance wherever it has been disturbed. There is no accident or chance in the organization of compound elements and the progressive evolution of worlds and beings. The correlations occur under law and this relates to the sciences of numbers and geometry.
The Secret Doctrine teaches that hierarchies of invisible conscious intelligent powers are the builders of the universe. Collectively and individually they are related symbolically to numbers and the numerical system. Nature geometrizes. As every artist knows, every form is produced from some combination and permutation of a circle, triangle, or square. The manifestation of each of these geometrical forms is guided and determined by numbers and proportions of numbers.
For example, every imaginable circle has a constant relationship between its diameter and circumference of 1 to 3.1415. This constant is called Pi. ( Golden Ratio Proportions) As the phenomenal universe objective to our consciousness is symbolized as a great circle, it is understandable that the architects and builders of the phenomenal universe, the hierarchies in their totality, are symbolized by 31415.
Individually, each of the hierarchies is also related to numbers. Every force of nature, in its variety of expressions and correlations, is the effect of the inner work of ceaseless motion and vibration. The varieties of tones in the musical scale and colors in the spectrum of light differ according to frequency or numbers of vibrations. It is the transformation and impression of frequencies of vibration that makes the perception of sounds and colors possible to the senses. The Esoteric Philosophy teaches that at the origin of every natural and phenomenal force there is a conscious guiding intelligent ruling power. Therefore, each of the hierarchies is related to frequency or numbers of vibrations.
As H.P.B. states:
“Atoms fill the immensity of Space, and by their continuous vibration are that MOTION which keeps the wheels of Life perpetually going. It is that inner work that produces the natural phenomena called the correlation of Forces. Only, at the origin of every such "force," there stands the conscious guiding noumenon thereof—Angel or God, Spirit or Demon—ruling powers, yet the same.” (SD I. pg. 633)
